PROPOSED RE-GRAVELLING OF ROAD SECTIONS AND DEVELOPMENT OF 11 STRATEGIC BORROWPITS IN THE BITTERFONTEIN-NUWERUS AREA

Description:

The Western Cape Government (WCG): Department of Transport and Public Works is proposing to re-gravel sections of Main Road (MR) 547, MR736 and Divisional Roads (DR) 2231 in the Bitterfontein-Nuwerus area.  The proposed project also entails the development of 11 borrowpits for the sourcing of road-building material.  It is proposed to develop the borrowpits as strategic sources for long-term road repair and maintenance use.  A Maintenance Management Plan (MMP) is required as the re-gravelling project would entail maintenance work at various drainage channel crossings.  A Basic Assessment Report (BAR) and Environmental Management Programme Report is aslo required for the development of the proposed borrowpits.

A Basic Assessment Report (BAR) and Environmental Management Programme Report (EMPR) for the 11 proposed strategic borrowpits has also been compiled and made available for a 30-day review and comment period at the same time as the MMP.  All comments on the BAR and EMPR must reach CCA by no later than 25 January 2016 for inclusion in the submission to the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR).
