PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE R44 BETWEEN SOMERSET WEST AND STELLENBOSCH

Description:

The Western Cape Government (WCG): Department of Transport and Public Works is proposing to improve road sections and intersections on the R44 between Somerset West and Stellenbosch.  The R44 is a strategic link road between Somerset West and Stellenbosch.  in order to maintain the integrity of the route, access needs to be managed accordingly as well as service and safety improvements need to be made. A Basic Assessment process is being undertaken to obtain Environmental Authorisation.

Status:

A Final Basic Assessment Report (BAR) was submitted to DEA&DP on 13 December 2016 as part of the application procedure, i.e. at the same time as it was made available for comment.  All comments received by the end of the comment period were collated into a Final Comments and Responses Report (consisting of an authorities and general I&AP section), which on 31 May 2017 was submitted to DEA&DP.  The submission of this report is the final step of the Basic Assessment process.  This information is now before DEA&DP for decision-making purposes.  For information purposes, the Final BAR Comments and Responses Report has been made available for download below.  The full Final BAR is also still available.
