SALDANHA BAY MUNICIPALITY: PROPOSED MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE MOSSELBANK RIVER, DOWNSTREAM OF THE PATERNOSTER WASTE WATER TREATMENT WORKS

Description:

CCA Environmental (Pty) Ltd (CCA), an SLR Consulting company, has been appointed by the Saldanha Bay Municipality as the independent environmental assessment practitioner to compile a MMP for the proposed maintenance activities along a section of the Mosselbank River located downstream of the existing Paternoster Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW). The proposed maintenance work within the watercourse would entail the following:

  • Manual and/or mechanical removal of any silt, soil and/or debris from the river channel;
  • Manual and/or mechanical removal of aquatic and terrestrial invasive vegetation within the river channel; and
  • Rehabilitation of the river channel (e.g. planting of indigenous vegetation) following the completion of maintenance activities, where required.

Saldanha Bay Municipality 

Status:

A Maintenance Management Plan (MMP) has been compiled and released for a 30-day public review and comment period.  Hard copies of the MMP will be available at the Paternoster Public Library and the offices of CCA.  The full MMP is also available for download below.  Comments must be submitted to CCA by no later than Wednesday 14 June 2017.

Maintenance Management Plan (2202k)

 

PROPOSED LOURENS RIVER STORMWATER OUTLETS, LITTER TRAPS AND DETENTION POND, SOMERSET WEST

 

Description:

The City of Cape Town is proposing to construct five new stormwater outlet structures and associated litter traps at strategic points along the Lourens River, as well as a stomrwater detention pond on Erf 3308, as part of the emergency flood alleviation measures currently being implemented in Somerset West.  The proposed activities require environmental authorisation and CCA has thus been appointed to undertake a Basic Assessment process for the proposed project.
