AFRO ENERGY: PROPOSED EXPLORATION FOR PETROLEUM ON VARIOUS FARMS IN THE MPUMALANGA AND KWAZULU-NATAL PROVINCES (12/3/321 ER)

Description:

Afro Energy (Pty) Ltd lodged an application for an Exploration Right (ER) to explore for "Petroleum and Gas" with the Petroleum Agency SA (PASA) in terms of Section 79 of the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (No. 28 of 2002) (MPRDA).  The ER application area is located roughly between the towns of Ermelo in the northwest, Piet Retief in the northeast and Wakkerstroom in the south, which falls within a portion of the Mpumalanga province.  The application is for undertaking early-phase petroleum exploration, which is aimed at determining the presence of Coal Bed Methane (CBM) gas resources that could warrant further exploration.  The initial exploration work programme would be restricted to an aeromagnetic survey and the drilling of up to four stratigraphic core boreholes at known locations.  The proposed project requires Environmental Authorisation in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and SLR has thus been appointed to undertake the required Scoping and Environmental Impact process.

SPECTRUM: PROPOSED 2D SEISMIC SURVEY OFF THE COAST OF SOUTHERN NAMIBIA

Description:

Spectrum Geo Limited (Pty) Ltd (Spectrum) has applied to undertake a 2D seismic survey off the coast of southern Namibia under a Multi-Client Agreement with the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR).  The proposed 2D seismic survey would be between 5000 and 6000 km in length, covering an area of 138 300 square kilometers in water depths from 50 m to over 3000 m. SLR has been appointed to investigate the baseline environmental conditions in the proposed survey area and to assess the potential impacts and present the findings in an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report.

 

SANRAL: PROPOSED ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUARRY IN THE NGQUZA HILL LOCAL MUNICIPALITY, EASTERN CAPE

Description:

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) is proposing to develop a quarry within the Ngquza Hill Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province. The proposed quarry would act as a local source of the necessary materials for construction of the Mthentu and Msikaba river bridges and other required works on the N2 Wild Coast Toll Highway. SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed by SANRAL’s consulting engineer, SMEC South Africa, to undertake the Scoping and EIA process to meet the relevant requirements of, amongst others, the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (No. 28 of 2002) and National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (No. 107 of 1998).

 

SHELL PROPOSED EXPLORATION DRILLING IN THE ORANGE BASIN DEEP WATER LICENCE AREA OFF THE WEST COAST OF SOUTH AFRICA

Description:

In February 2012 Shell South Africa Upstream B.V. (Shell) obtained an Exploration Right for the Orange Basin Deep Water Licence Area in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (No. 28 of 2002) (MPRDA). As part of the process of applying for the Exploration Right, an Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) was compiled and approved for the undertaking of seismic surveys and exploration drilling within the licence area. Shell subsequently undertook a 3D seismic survey in an 8 000 km2 portion of the licence area. Based on analysis of the seismic data, Shell is proposing to drill one or possibly two exploration wells in the northern portion of the licence area.
